9 Things to do To Give Yourself a Kick in The Arse

“Yesterday you said tomorrow. Just do it” - Nike

Your motivation has been at an all-time low lately and you can’t seem to shake off whatever has you in it s grip. You don’t feel like doing anything, though there are many things you really want to do.

You can motivate yourself and get over procrastrination if you follow a few key simple steps to jolt your way out of it. Or you can just keep telling yourself...

Tomorrow, you keep telling yourself, you’ll get to it tomorrow. You’ve heard it a thousand times. Tomorrow never comes. You have dreams, goals, fantastic ideas, plans and visions but they are all trapped in your head. So many things swirling around in there.

Overwhelm results in lack of focus. When we don’t have focus - we don’t know what to do - so we don’t do anything at all. We just stay on the couch and dream.

  • So what is it going to take to get you off the couch or that lazy boy chair and get moving?
  • How hard can it be really?
  • Or do you simply want to sit back and watch life pass you by and live vicariously through others?

I didn’t think so.

Here are 9 sure fire ways to get you from couch to cruisin’ in no time.

Choose a few, do them all, but at least try one or two. The results may pleasantly surprise you.

1. Make small short term goals.

Take one big idea you have and break it down into little steps. When it’s done this way, it won’t be so overwhelming to you anymore and it will be easier to see the end result.

2. Make an appointment.

On the calendar. Like a doctor’s appointment. And stick to it. Don’t shrug it off as nothing. It has great importance to you and you should treat it just as importantly as you would if it was a visit to the doctor.

3. Write it out.

Write out your plan, dream or goal on post it notes, many post it notes, and stick them all over your house or at least where you will clearly see them.

The best spots to put reminders of your plans are:

  • the fridge,
  • the bathroom mirror,
  • and the coffee maker

.

Every time you see the post it note, read it out loud.

4. Call a friend.

There’s always someone who knows someone that may be able to help you take your ideas to the next level. Call that person. You need to talk to them. Doesn’t matter if you don’t know them well.

Most people are more than happy to help someone with a plan, dream or goal.

5. YouTube anyone?

When was the last time you listened to or watched an epic video from a motivational guru? Get on over to YouTube and search for motivational videos and pick one.

It doesn’t have to be an hour long one either, there are some awesome ones that pack a punch that are only 5 minutes long. These will surely get your arse off the couch.

6. Take notes, please.

Grab a pen and paper and write down every single thing you have swimming around in your head.

  • All your plans,
  • all your ideas,
  • all your dreams etc.,

all of them. Jot them down on a piece of paper and then break them down into smaller pieces, doable pieces.

When you do this, you will discover if you have too many things going on and how to break them down into steps so it’s not so overwhelming for you all the time.

7. Feel the vibration.

We know the drill. In order to get closer to our goals, we have to act like they already have happened. We have to feel the feeling as if we already have it, right?

So take one of the dreams in your head, imagine you already have it, feel what it’s like to feel it and then release it. This will get you motivated to get that much closer to your goal and get you up and moving in the right direction.

8. Talk to yourself.

I could never quite figure out why talking to yourself has such a bad rap. It is, by far and in my opinion, the best and easiest way to talk yourself into doing stuff and getting your arse in gear.

When you hear your own voice telling you what you NEED to do right now, chances are, you might actually listen.

Make sure you use a loud, clear, authoritative tone when you’re having a conversation with yourself. Make it convincing.

9. I can and I will.

Use only positive words and statements when you are thinking the things you want to do or get done.

Don’t tell yourself “I can’t do this” or “This is going to be too hard”. Get those kind of words out of your head right now.

You can do anything you want and whether or not it’s going to be too hard doesn’t matter. Who cares how hard it’s going to be? You might realize that it wasn’t that hard after all and you really enjoyed the challenge.

Just do it for goodness sake.
