5 Exercises to Unblock Your Heart Chakra

The heart chakra is an area where people commonly have trouble finding balance. Often people are either too open or too closed off with their feelings, having trouble finding a balance. Whether your heart chakra is overflowing or closed, the following exercises will help you find balance. When this chakra is in balance it is easy to find peace within one self rather than robbing your energy be focusing on external compassion or a lack thereof.

1.Exercise the Pectoral Area

Whether it is doing push-ups or swimming, any exercise that works the pecs activates the heart chakra . See it as killing two birds with one stone, because you get to work on your physical and emotional well-being.

2. Meditation

There are many different guided meditations for opening the heart chakra, but this is one of my favorites. Sit in a comfortable positions with your spine extended up towards the sky. Turn your attention inward, trying to detect the beating of your heart. What is the pitch of your heart. Is it soft? Is it fast? Take a deep inhale in, then imagine your heart space expanding outwards. As you breath out feel as if the heart is dropping downwards and deepening. Follow your breath imagining this continual growth for at least ten breaths.

3. Breathing Exercises

You can do this breathing exercise sitting up, but if you are a beginner it is easier to do lying flat on the ground or on a yoga mat. Begin breathing deeply with nice belly breaths. Rest your hand on your heart then feel the warmth and love that it emanates. Feel as if your hand is cradling the heart as you inhale and exhale, so that it can nurture the heart to grow without giving away too much. When you remove you should feel energy surging in your heart chakra.

4. Passive Chest Opener

This is a move borrowed from yoga, but even with zero yoga experience you can do it. All you need is a wool blanket rolled tightly into a cylinder. You only want the cylinder to be about 4-5 inches tall for this exercise. Sit on the floor with your feet flat on the ground. Place the blanket to that the thing edge is directly behind your sacrum, and it will run up the length of your spine, and support your head

. You are going to lay back onto the blanket then allow your arms splay out to the side. If you feel discomfort in your neck, place a pillow or block below it. If you feel discomfort in your lower back keep your feet flat on the floor with your knees bent. Enjoy laying here for two to three minutes, and you can add on time to this length as you become more familiar with the exercise.

5. Express Yourself

Personal expression is extremely important to the heart chakra. Choose any activity where you feel as if you are expressing yourself whether it is hiking, cooking, sewing, playing an instrument, writing or anything that fills your hearts’ desire to create.

It is obviously important to keep all your seven major chakras balanced and we will be writing more articles on how to take care of all your chakras.
